  Zirtek

Zirtek

Zirtek review

Zirtek is an antihistamine that treats the common symptoms of allergies that usually affect the eyes and nose. Aside from allergies, Zirtek is also used to treat hay fever, urticaria, angioedema, and even Kimuras illness.

Talk to your healthcare professional about any health conditions that could create an undesired reaction with the medication. Your healthcare professional must know whether you have an allergy to Zirtek or any of its components. If you have had kidney failure or a liver disorder, your healthcare professional may need to adjust the dosage or you may need to undergo special monitoring while taking this medication. Zirtek has not been found to have any harmful effects to an unborn baby; however, your pregnancy must be discussed with your doctor. This is also true for mothers who are breastfeeding since Zirtek can be excreted in breast milk. Tell your healthcare professional if you are breastfeeding before you begin taking this medication. Special precautions need to be taken for adults age 65 and above. As you age, your body's lower resistance may increase your risks for side effects. Your healthcare professional will make necessary dosage adjustments applicable to your case.

Once proper dosage is determined, follow the prescription strictly to benefit from the effects of Zirtek. Zirtek is taken orally and is available in chewable, liquid suspension, and pill form. The chewables need to be chewed completely before swallowing. The liquid suspension needs to be shaken thoroughly and measured accurately. Do not use a regular tablespoon; a measuring spoon is far more accurate. Take the pill with a glass of water and swallow the pill whole. Crushing the pill will make its bitter taste even more challenging so it is better to swallow the pill whole. Zirtek can be taken on an empty stomach. Unless your healthcare professional tells you otherwise, continue with your normal diet.

Follow the dosing schedule set by your healthcare professional. When taking Zirtek, you may experience drowsiness or dizziness. If symptoms become more serious or come with breathing difficulty or rashes, consult your healthcare professional immediately.

Be careful when performing physically challenging activities while taking Zirtek. Your abilities to operate a machine or drive may be affected by the drowsiness caused by Zirtek. Avoid these activities for the duration of your treatment. Do not consume alcohol while taking Zirtek as it may increase the side effects the same way some medications do. Talk to your healthcare professional about prescription and non-prescription medications you are taking prior to taking this medication to ensure your safety.

Zirtek is best kept out of reach of young children. Store it away from heat or moisture. Do not share your prescription with others and use it only for the condition it was prescribed. Other conditions will require a diagnosis for an accurate prescription. Take your healthcare professional's advice seriously. If you are not comfortable using Zirtek, have your healthcare professional closely monitor you during treatment to check your progress.
