  Xatral

Xatral

Xatral review

Xatral is a medication categorized in the group of alpha-adrenergic blockers. Primarily, it is used in treating benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. Xatral helps in relaxing the muscles of the urinary system, making it easy for the patient to urinate.

Also distributed under the generic name Alfuzosin, in 2003, the FDA approved this medication for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Xatral is in the form of a tablet and is taken orally. A 10mg tablet taken daily after meals is the standard dose. It is best to take the medicine at the same time daily so as to maintain the schedule and avoid the tendency of missing a dose. Avoid crushing or chewing the medicine and take it with a glass of water to make it easier to swallow whole.

If you have missed a dose, skip it and simply take the next dose. Do not attempt to take two doses at a time to make up for the missed one because you will overdose which might harm your health.

In the event of an overdose, seek immediate medical attention.

Most medicaments have side effects when used and in the case of Xatral, the known side effects are broken down into two categories, serious and less serious side effects.

Less serious side effects include, but are not limited to, cephalalgia, dizziness, diarrhea, sore throat, rhinorrhea, cough and fatigue. More serious side effects may include chest pain, painful penis erection for male, loss of appetite, skin edema of the face, dark colored stools, yellowish skin and eyes, nausea and dark colored urine.

There may be other side effects that are not included here. If any of these side effects occur or there are unwanted results, it is highly recommended that you seek immediate medical attention to avoid any possible complications.

Before using Xatral, it is best to consult with and discuss your medical condition with your doctor. Tell your doctor if you have other medical problems like liver illness, kidney problems, prostate cancer, long QT syndrome, chest pain, low blood pressure, allergies or artery problems. Also let your doctor know if you are taking medicaments for treatment of AIDS or Human immunodeficiency virus.

Other alpha-blocker medicaments may interfere or react with Xatral so it is best to inform your doctor if you are taking other similar medicine.

If you are going to undergo cataract surgery, you must inform your doctor because this medication can affect the pupil of the eye during the surgery.

Pregnant women should consult a doctor before taking Xatral for the safety of the baby and the mother. Breast-feeding mothers should also consult a doctor prior to taking this medication.

Xatral may hamper the normal alertness of the brain and body so it is recommended that you avoid activities that require mental and physical alertness. This includes driving, swimming, operating machines, biking and other extreme activities.

Some medicines may react with Xatral. You must inform your doctor of any medication you are taking prior to using Xatral.
