People suffering from cardiac problems or those who had a history of stroke, arrhythmias and cardiovascular disease should not take the drug. Trazodon may also impair mental and physical abilities so dangerous occupations and activities should be avoided. Trazodon is contraindicated to individuals with known hypersensitivity to it. It also has known interactions with some drugs, supplements and herbs like St. John’s wort. 16 clinically depressed patients were included in a trial wherein they started taking 50 mg of Trazodon for 2 weeks. The dosage was increased to 100 mg by the third week then 150 mg by the fifth. After 6 weeks, all patients showed significant improvement in mood. 10 however, showed a variety of side effects like dry mouth, muscle twitching and numbness and dizziness. No complications occurred.
