  Rimonabant

Rimonabant

Rimonabant review

Rimonabant is an anti-obesity drug that is approved for use worldwide. It was introduced by a French pharmaceutical company named Sanofi-Synthelabo. Shortly after its invasion of the market, press reports talking about the adverse effects of the drug are released, which lead to its eventual suspension.

Rimonabant is a CB1 receptor drug that is prescribed to be used along with balanced diet and regular exercise to treat obesity. It suppresses one’s appetite, making it easier for an obese person to manage his weight. Clinical reports have shown an impressive working of Rimonabant, being credited for at least 10% weight loss in obese patients. No other drug has been found to work as impressive as that. Aside from weight loss, Rimonabant promises effects on certain health conditions related to obesity.

Rimonabant was also found effective in helping out in smoking cessation and some other substance dependence. Its manufacturer states that Rimonabant’s suppression of craving goes beyond food.

However, Rimonabant is said to have adverse effects in the central nervous system, which may develop into mental illnesses such as Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, and Huntington’s Disease among others in patients who are deemed susceptible to such conditions. Due to that fact, the drug was suspended in 2008.

Rimonabant is available in a low dose of 5mg to a high dose of 20mg. Your need for it and how to administer it must come from the advice of a diet expert. Rimonabant is not set out to work alone. It is designed to be used in conjunction with proper diet and exercise to improve a person’s wellbeing while reducing the size of your waistline.

As with any medicine treatment, using Rimonabant regularly only merits enjoying the full benefits you can get from the drug. With all the warnings about the drug up and about, you must keep yourself closely monitored for side effects while under treatment. This is to ensure that your symptoms of side effects do not outweigh the advantages of taking the drug.

Before using Rimonabant, talk to your doctor first. Your risk factors in using this drug treatment must be discussed. Allergies to the drug are first concerns in line. Tell your doctor if you have allergies with any drug or any substance for that matter. As drug interactions may occur, you must also tell your doctor about prescription and non-prescription drugs that you are currently using.

Discuss your medical history as well. Certain health conditions may not go well with the use of this Rimonabant.

Rimonabant was suspended in the market for issues regarding its supposed adverse effects. It has been found that patients who undergo a Rimonabant treatment submerge in severe depression. Since Rimonabant works in the central nervous system, the effect in one person to another is fairly difficult to measure or even anticipate.

The fact that Rimonabant use may result into a mental condition, its use in patients with a neurological condition is not advisable. Aside from depression, Rimonabant is said to cause suicidal tendencies and other abnormal moods.

With all the bad reports regarding the use of Rimonabant, people seeking help to lose weight is encouraged to resort to other, safer diet pills like Orlistat.
