Pirazetam, part of a class of drugs called nootropics, which is used for many different functions in the brain. It is said to work in part by facilitiating the movement of information between the two halves of the brain. Pirazetam is used to enhance cognition and memory, to slow down the aging of the brain, to increase blood and oxygen flow to the brain, to assist in stroke recovery, to help those with symptoms of Alzheimer, Down Syndrome (although this use can be controversial) , dyslexia, and dementia. It has also shown promise in the treatment of post-stroke memory loss, epilepsy, and cognitive decline that occurs after heart or brain surgery. It has also been proven effective in treating alcoholism and its symptoms. Pirazetam is also known to be useful as a long-term treatment for clotting, coagulation, and vasospastic disorders, and is an extremely safe anti-clotting medication. In some countries Pirazetam is considered a prescribed medication, but in the United States it is considered by the Food and Drug Administration to be a food supplement. The FDA has not approved any form of piracetam, but those inside the United States often purchase it through the mail from other countries.
Pirazetam has very few side effects, and the ones it does have are usually mild and transient. Side effects can include nausea, dizziness or headache. In most cases, lowering your dosage will help minimize these side effects. Other effects can include weight gain, diarrhea, depression, excitability, anxiety, sleeplessness, fatigue, drowsiness, irritability, agitation, nervousness, rash, and tremor, but in many cases these effects can be reduced by taking magnesium supplements.
