Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo, which is generically prescribed as ethinyl estradiol and norelgestromate, is commonly used to prevent pregnancy. This medication prevents the body from ovulating and alters the mucous membranes of the cervix as well as alters the uterine wall lining. Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases or HIV. Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo is applied as a patch rather than taken as a pill.
Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo is not appropriate for everyone. A thorough medical history should be assessed prior to prescribing this medication. Patients with a history of recent pregnancy, stroke, blood clot, circulation problems, angina, high blood pressure, hormone dependent cancer, diabetes, abnormal vaginal bleeding, liver disease, liver cancer, migraines, heart valve disorders, or jaundice caused by birth control pills can not take Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. Patients with a medical history which includes heart disease, heart attack, mild angina, heart failure, depression, kidney disease, high cholesterol, overweight issues, gallbladder disease, diabetes, seizures, epilepsy, or fibrocystic breast disease may not be able to take Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo or may require careful monitoring while undergoing drug therapy with this medication, depending on the condition and the severity of the condition.
The American Food and Drug Administration rated this medication as a pregnancy risk category X, which means that it is highly probable that this medication will cause harm or birth defects to an unborn baby. Just like with any medication there are going to be side effects. I have been taking the pill to regulate cycle and it has worked fine. I am pleased with the pill and can't complain. With any medication you have to give it time to work and adjust with your own body.....

I've been on this BC for almost 3 years now, and I'm desperately hoping to get off of it. Horrible depression and mood swings, weight gain, bloating, gaseousness around week 2-3, and loss of sex drive. Would not recommend.

I've been on this for 2 months now, and so far I have not had any side effects, except for headaches. They aren't even that bad either. My boobs got bigger, actually huge, and I had no weight gain. I expected a lot more side effects but so far nothing.

I've been on this birth control for 9 years. I love this pill. I have tried "newer" pills when they come out but I was getting depression from them so I kept coming back to this. I think it all has to do with the person's genes. That's why there are so many different brands out there.

This pill does it's job, but it did give me lots of side effects. I've been taking it for almost 3 years now and I am just now deciding to try something different. It's making me feel really sickly. I mean I can still function normally but I get bad migranes and cramps and hives from taking this pill. It's not for everyone but it could be right for certain people! You never know until you try it, your doctor would have the best opinion about it with your health history. I just never put all the symptoms I was having towards this, I just figured I wasn't feeling good big whoop. But after reading a lot of reviews and symptoms you can have from it, mine are definitely from this pill.

It works, but I have completely lost my sex drive. I have seen that oral contreceptives may have more of a libido drop that transdermal or any other form. Therefore, I will be trying the patch soon.

I have been on ortho tri cylclen lo for a couple of years now. I thought it was working well, until today. Six months ago I started experiencing severe pain and pressure behind my eyes. I was experiencing bad headaches and light sensitivity that I refer to as migraines, however I have not been officially diagnosed. The headaches have gotten worse over time and are now nearly unbearable. I started experiencing vision changes and floaters. I have been unable to sleep for more than 5 hours a night, I usually average 3 hours. I feel as if I cannot shut my brain off. I think about the craziest things, that I would normally never waste my brain power on, but feel as if I can't stop my brain from wondering. I sought medical attention from my family doctor, who thought that I was possibly experiencing retnal detachment(minus the racing thoughts symptom). He referred me to an ophthamologist immediately. The ophthamologist could not find anything wrong with my eyes and wanted to refer me to a neurologist. I've been putting it off, knowing that it was going to be pricey. Today I went to my ob to pick up my birth control pills. She started naming off a checklist of possible side effects, wanting to know if I had experienced any of them. I was shocked. I had not made the connection between my birth control and my symptoms. I was taken off of the pills as of today. I am curious to see if my symptoms subside and feel hopefull that the severe headaches may soon be a thing of the past. I am very concerned to learn that I am now at high risk of blood clots though!

I have been on this pill for 5 years now and I haven't had too many problems until recently. I have been having a lot of diarrhea and I can't explain why it's happening. I've tried eating less or consuming no lactose foods to make sure those weren't the culprits and I am going to the doctor tomorrow to figure out my options because I am not ready for another child but this constant diarrhea is very inconvenient. Otherwise the pill has been good.

I'm beginning this pill soon, and I took Yaz and went off it after 2 packs because I had almost ALL of the side effects. Honestly, you can't take advise about BCP's from anyone, everyone is different. I'll give it a try, you never know.
