Olux, an anti-inflammatory and antipruritic, is used to treat various skin disorders such as eczema and is available in ointment and an emollient cream. It is recommended for patients with various skin disorders like eczema, rashes, allergies, and dermatitis. The medication reduces the swelling, redness, and itching that comes with these skin disorders.
Olux, with the generic name clobetasol propionate, is recommended for use among adults and children. Olux is applied to the skin twice a day. However, a healthcare professional can increase the dosage according to the severity of the condition. The medication should be used only to the skin and should never be applied to the face, underarms, or groin unless instructed by your healthcare professional.
Patients should first wash and dry their hands before applying Olux. The affected area should be cleaned and dried prior to the application of the medication as well. The area should not be covered or bandage unless instructed to do so by your healthcare professional.
After applying Olux, patients should again wash their hands. In case the medication accidentally comes in contact with the eyes, mouth, or nose, immediately rinse the area with lots of water.
Olux should not be used for longer than 2 weeks and the dosage should be kept under 50 grams a week. In case the conditions continue, patients should consult their healthcare professional for further direction.
Patients should inform their healthcare professional if they experience any side effects. Some of the side effects that may result include a burning, itching, or stinging sensation at the area being treated. Usually these should improve after a few days once the body becomes used to the medication. However, if the conditions persist, talk to your healthcare professional as soon as possible. Most of the time, patients do not experience these side effects, so the chances are quite low.
Some serious side effects include discoloration of the skin, acne, stretch marks, unwanted growing of hair, and folliculitis or hair growth. Consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of these side effects.
It is very rare that a patient develops allergy to this medication. However, patients are advised to get immediate medical help in case they notice symptoms of an allergic reaction which include rashes, swelling, itching, severe dizziness, and difficulties in breathing.
Before taking Olux, patients should tell their healthcare professionals if they have a history of allergies to corticosteroids like prednisone or if they are allergic to any medication. Patients should also tell their healthcare professional about their full medical history, particularly if they have problems with blood circulation, immune system, or skin disorders like rosacea.
Clobestasol should not be used on a sore or an infected area.
There is a possibility, though very low, that Clobestasol can enter the bloodstream and lead to undesirable results requiring corticosteroid treatment. This may happen to children or patients using the medication for an extended period of time. Some of the symptoms include vision problems, unexplained weight loss, and persistent headache.
