  Marinol

Marinol

Marinol review

Marinol is a revolutionary drug manufactured by Unimed Pharmaceuticals Inc. It has been approved for use by the United States of America’s Food and Drug Administration since 2006.

In recent years, the use of Marinol capsules has been a source of intrigue. Since it originated from cannabis, Marinol carried cannabinoid-related properties that cannot be ignored. As such, this medication cause some sort of feeling ‘high’ including elation, easy laughing, and heightened awareness.

Marinol is mostly indicated for the treatment of nausea and vomiting in patients who are under chemotherapy and for the treatment of anorexia in patients with AIDS. Marinol’s antiemetic and appetite stimulation properties are pretty helpful in the management of discomforts for patients who are under so much stress.

When cancer patients become resistant to other antiemetic drugs, the resort is often Marinol. That’s because this unconventional medication has proven to be quite effective in relieving the vomiting discomforts brought about by certain cancer drugs.

That is also the case with patients inflicted with AIDS. Loss of appetite associated with the AIDS virus is often regulated by Marinol.

Marinol is available in soft gel capsules that are available in 2.5mg and 5mg strengths. The use of this drug must be indicated by a qualified professional according to the patient’s need and his ability to tolerate the after effects.

As an antiemetic drug, Marinol is used four to six times a day at 5mg per dose. One is given at least one hour before chemotherapy and every two to four hours after. If the usual dose proves to be ineffective and the patient is seem tolerant of the side effects, increase in dosage may be made.

As an appetite stimulant, Marinol is used twice a day, usually at 2.5mg per dose. Mostly, Marinol is given one before lunch and another before dinner. In case the patient cannot tolerate a 5mg per day dosage, it may be reduced to 2.5mg a day for a signle dosage to be given once before bedtime.

The dosage and administration of Marinol depends solely on the patient’s responses to the drug including his ability to tolerate the adverse effects. Special precaution must be made, therefore, about the use of Marinol without doctor’s permission.

Marinol may cause mild to serious side effects. Palpitation, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and confusion are common and usually disappear after a while. If your symptoms of side effects prove to be alarming, do not wait another moment to tell your doctor.

Before taking Marinol, it is important that you make a thorough consultation with your doctor. Tell your doctor of any allergies, any other medical conditions apart from the ones being treated with Marinol, and any other drugs that you may be taking alongside this medication. Such notes are important to ensure that you are getting more of the drug’s benefits than its adverse effects.

Keep all your appointments with your doctor while you are under Marinol therapy. It is important that your doctor monitors your responses to the drug and how is it working to treat your condition.
