  Indapamide

Indapamide

Indapamide review

Indapamide is a water pill that is marketed worldwide by French pharmaceutical company Servier Laboratories. It is widely available under the brand name Natrilix SR but is also available in combination preparations with an Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme or ACE inhibitor drug to treat high blood pressure.

Indapamide effectively controls edema and hypertension caused by heart disease. It has the ability to reduce fluid retention in patients with congestive heart failure by transferring excessive salt and water in the kidneys to be excreted in the urine. Indapamide also works well in controlling high blood pressure.

The 1.5mg sustained-released tablet of Indapamide is mostly used once daily, every morning by patients who are fit enough to tackle both the benefits and the after-effects of the drug. Indapamide is contraindicated to patients who are allergic to sulfanomides and its components. Patients with known renal failure and hypokalemia may be advised to undergo special monitoring, use an adjusted dosage or use an entirely different drug altogether. Pregnant and nursing women also need to be very cautious about using Indapamide. An insufficient data of its safety under such circumstances certainly cannot recommend its use, especially with a possibility of exposing the unborn and the nursing baby to risks.

Indapamide must be used regularly under close monitoring. While under this medication treatment, patients must be checked regularly for sufficient Potassium and uric acid levels in the blood. A decrease in Potassium levels in the blood, also known as Hypokalemia, is likely to occur. Indapamide users must also monitor their blood pressure.

Indapamide use can cause several physical discomforts. The side effects of the drug are characterized with fatigue, allergic manifestations, muscle cramps, drowsiness, dizziness, thirst, upset stomach, blurred vision, and vomiting. These symptoms must go away completely once your body becomes adjusted to the drug. Severe forms of side effects, which include rapid weight loss, skin rash, and breathing difficulty need immediate medical attention.

Follow the directions of your doctor in using Indapamide strictly. Take the drug at about the same time each day to reduce the possibility of missing a dose. Taking Indapamide regularly will strengthen and sustain its positive effects in controlling your blood pressure. If you missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember it, considering that it is not too close to your nearest dosing schedule. Never take a double dosage by all means. Indapamide overdose can cause serious effects that are associated with electrolyte disturbances. If such circumstance occurs, rush to the hospital immediately.

Anyone who is undergoing a medication treatment must be kept under competent supervision. Someone in your family must learn through the indications of your Indapamide use. Any irregularity must be brought to the attention of a qualified doctor. It is also important that you take your medicine container with you all the time. Before undergoing any other medical treatment including surgery, you must tell your physician about your Indapamide use. This way, he will know what to avoid, reducing the risks of drug interactions at all times.
