Gliclazide is used in combination with exercise sessions and diet in order to control the increase of blood sugar on a patient with diabetes. This medicine is usually provided to non insulin dependent patients. By controlling the increase of blood sugar, it helps prevent the risk of blindness, kidney problems, heart disease and stroke.

Gliclazide is best consumed after meals. A dose of one tablet can be taken each day or depends on the prescription of a doctor. Gliclazide should be taken on a scheduled time everyday so as to have better results.

Never attempt to use double dose as this can cause serious health problem. It is always safe to follow instructions from a medical professional.

Before taking this medicine you must visit your doctor and inform of any health problems you have especially if you have allergies to medicines or if you have kidney and liver problems.

Medication with this drug would normally make you very sensitive to the heat of the sun. If possible, do not expose yourself too much from the sun and wear some protection such as umbrella, sunglasses and sunscreen.

You must also avoid injuries and infections. You must inform your doctor at once if you suspect any infection or you have any injuries. Pregnant women are discouraged to use Glilazide but if necessary, consult your doctor to determine if it would have any risk with your baby.

It is also recommended to inform your physician if you are presently using other medicines such as blood thinners, aspirin, anti-depressant, sulfonamide antibiotics, rifampin, water pills, contraceptives, steroids and disopyramide.

During medication, it would be good to avoid intake of any alcoholic drink which can have a reaction with the medicine and can cause rapid heart rate, flushing, nausea and giddiness.

This medicine should be prescribed by a doctor and should not in any way shared to patients even if you have the same health condition. As a diabetic patient, attending diabetes education program is advised so that you will have better understanding on what are needed to maintain your health. You must also have a regular check up. Keep all your medical records intact for constant monitoring.

Make sure to follow the prescribed dosage of your doctor and do not attempt to stop the medication with consulting your doctor.

Normally, side effects will occur to a patient due to the adjustment of the body to the medicine. Some signs of side effects may occur such as diarrhea, nausea and sometimes stomach disturbance. There are also tendency of itching, rashes, fever, chilling and noticeable bruises. It can also cause the decrease of blood sugar which can show symptoms like headache, unusual hunger, rapid heartbeat, dizziness and frequent sweating.

If signs of low sugar occur, it is recommended to eat candy or drink orange juice to increase sugar. You must also inform your doctor about the occurrence. You must also maintain a healthy diet so as to maintain the level of blood sugar.
