Etoricoxib is a type of medicine popularly known as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug or NSAID. How do NSAIDs work? They block the action or effect of cyclo-oxygenase, a certain substance found in the human body which is involved in producing prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are responsible for the pain, inflammation and swelling when there are injuries or certain diseases. Since NSAIDs block the action of cyclo-oxygenase that produce prostaglandins in the body, they are effective in relieving pain and reducing inflammation in the body.
Etoricoxib is considered to belong to a ne generation of NSAIDs. They effectively block the action of cyclo-oxygenase type 2 substances (COX-2). Etoricoxib inhibits the production of inflammatory prostaglandins without affecting the production of the prostaglandins that protect the intestines and stomach. Etoricoxib is more popular than other types of NSAIDs because unlike traditional NSAIDs, it succesfuuly reduces inflammation and pain but does not cause harmful side effects to the intestine and stomach of the person taking the medicine.
Most doctored prescribe Etoricoxib to patients who are suffering from acute gout, osteoarthritis and inflammatory disease of the joints. The aim of the doctor in prescribing Etoricoxib to patients who are suffering from the abovementioned diseases is to alleviate the pain and discomfort that comes along with inflammation.

Etoricoxib may be an effective drug and has minimal side effects compared to other NSAIDs but it is still always a good thing to be careful in taking medicines.
You should not use Etoricoxib if you have suffered or is suffering from the following: bleeding in the intestines or stomach, active peptic ulcer, inflammatory bowel disease related to Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, decreased kidney function, asthma, rhinitis, angiodema, nasal polyps, and urticaria.
Pregnant women, children under 16 years of age and breastfeeding women should not take Etoricoxib because it may cause unpleasant effects in their body. If you have a history of being allergic to certain drug ingredients, it is best for you to look at the ingredients of Etoricoxib prior to intake so that you will not encounter any aversive experience with Etoricoxib. It is highly suggested that you inform your doctor immediately should you have some allergic reaction to Etoricoxib.
