  Doxazosin

Doxazosin

Doxazosin review by Medical-look.com

Doxazosin is an alpha blocker developed by Pfizer. It is marketed worldwide under the brand name Cardura.

Doxazosin is mostly used by men. It has blocking properties that help relieve men from worrying about enlarged prostate and even high blood pressure. Its main function is to relax the muscles in the prostate and the bladder neck allowing for easier urination. It also helps improve the blood flow in the veins and the arteries, which causes the blood pressure to normalize.

To know whether you are a candidate for Doxazosin treatment, it would be ideal that you consult your doctor first. Your doctor would know the indications and contraindications of the drug based on your case. Certain concerns that must be taken to your doctor’s attention include allergy from any drugs or drug compounds and existing medical conditions, especially those that involve the liver, the stomach, and the prostate. Prescriptions and non-prescription drugs that you are currently using must also be noted.

Doxazosin is administered orally by mouth. It comes in regular and extended-release tablets. The regular tablets must be taken with or without food twice a day while the extended-release kind must be taken every morning after breakfast. To avoid missing your dose, it is advisable that you take your medicine at about the same time each day. Missing a dose is as much of a no-no as doubling a dose but the latter can cause more harmful effects than the former. If you happen to miss a dose and you remembered taking it at a time that is too close to your next one, it would be better to discard the missed dose and continue with your normal schedule.

Usually, you will be a given a low dose that will be gradually increased over time. Doxazosin is intended for long-term use as its beneficial effects do not become recognizable until after two weeks of continued use. Do not stop or prolong your medication unless otherwise advised by your doctor.

Doxazosin may cause some side effects. Mild episodes of dizziness and drowsiness may occur alongside headache, shortness of breath, weight gain, and many others. Since you are bound to feel drowsy for a period of time, it would be best if you stay away from activities that require your full attention for a while. Driving and operating a machine must be avoided. These side effects are easy to live through as they normally go away as your body is able to adjust to Doxazosin. This means that experiencing severe episodes of the above-mentioned symptoms require the knowledge of a doctor. Consult your doctor immediately once you experience uncommon and more serious side effects such as irregular heartbeat, chest pain, and painful penis erections.

Remember that the amount of physical discomfort brought about by Doxazosin must not be greater than its benefits. If your symptoms become bothersome and is not at all improving with the recurrence of severe side effects, it is probably time that you seek medical advice for another possible treatment.
