Cipramil review by Medicalook.com

With the wonders of modern technology, everything could now be cured by a pill and fortunately this includes depression. However, you might be a little sad once you find out from this article that Cipramil may not be the perfect drug after all. Read on.
As an anti depressant, Cipramil comes in tablet and drop forms. It contains the active ingredient citalopram hydrochloride. This is a type of antidepressant know to be as serotonin re-uptake inhibitor (SSRI).
As a general rule, antidepressants deal with the nerve cells in the brain, particularly on the numerous chemical compounds we call neurotransmitters. They act as the messengers between the nerve cells. For us to feel good, the neurotransmitter serotonin should be released from the nerve cells of the brain. Once released, it no longer has an effect on your mood. The decreased amount of serotonin is believed to be the cause of depression.
As an SSRI, it is supposed to prevent serotonin from being reabsorbed back into the nerve cells which will promote a mood lightening effect that helps relieve depression, panic and fear.
To take effect, it needs 2-4 weeks so you have to constantly take it for the prescribed period of time even if it seems to be ineffective at first. If anxiety or depression gets worse, you should consult your doctor for the next step. While on the drug, please avoid driving or operating machinery. You should also stay away from alcohol as well.
You are supposed to follow the prescription of the doctor at all times and under no circumstances are you to immediately stop the use of the drug. Doctor’s orders should be followed because in not, there is a big chance that the sudden stop with cause the withdrawal symptoms to appear. Such symptoms are temporary and they are not because of addiction or your dependence on the drug.
As a drug, it has been associated with the development of distressing restlessness and the need to move, usually with the inability to sit or stand still. Should you experience these symptoms, please immediately contact your doctor.
Another downside of the drug is that it may cause the amount of sodium in the blood to drop - a condition called hyponatraemia. Elderly people are susceptible to this. Convulsions can also be experienced and when you do, please call your doctor immediately. This is also a warning for those suffering from epilepsy that would experience more seizures after starting with this medicine.
Children below 18 who need to take the drug should definitely consult their doctor for the right prescription because it has been ruled by the Committee on Safety of Medicines (CSM) that the risks of taking the drug outweigh the benefits for this specific age group. This means that Citalopram is not licensed and would never be recommended for use of children in this age group.
Some of the other groups that should use the drug with caution are the elderly people, people with a history of suicidal behavior or thoughts, people with a history of mania or hypomania, those receiving electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), and those taking antipsychotic medicines.
