  Cilostazol

Cilostazol

Cilostazol review

Cilostazol a drug used to treat the symptoms of intermittent claudication, which is basically leg pain caused by walking. It has been distributed under the brand name Pletal by Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co.

Intermittent claudication is a condition caused by blood circulation disorders. Cilostazol works by improving blood circulation, supplying blood to the legs, dilating the arteries, and decreasing the coagulation of platelets. Clinical studies showed Cilostazol’s role in increasing fatality rate among patients with congestive heart failure. The same studies showed, however, that the drug does not do same harm to people who do not have the disease.

Before taking Cilostazol, it is important that you make an appointment with your doctor to determine the precautionary measure you could take in using the drug. A history of allergy to Cilostazol or to any of its components must be considered. If the allergy occurs while you are already taking the drug, report the case to your doctor immediately so he can cure the symptoms and prescribe you with a different medication. The condition of your heart and liver must also be looked upon. People who have heart and liver disorders usually require an adjusted dosage of Cilostazol. Pregnant women, those who are planning to become one, and those who are nursing a newborn must consult their doctors before taking this medicine. Using Cilostazol alongside other medicines may also cause damaging health effects. Discuss your intake of prescriptive and non-prescriptive medicines including your vitamins before deciding to take the drug. If your doctor sees any of the components that do not combine harmoniously, he will make the necessary adjustments to your prescription. Cigarette smokers are not advisable to use Cilostazol. Tobacco and other related products decrease the efficiency of the drug.

Cilostazol is administered twice daily in tablet form. It is orally at least 30 minutes before or two hours after breakfast and dinner. Cilostazol can be taken with an empty stomach and otherwise. An adjustment in your daily diet is not necessary unless your doctor says so. The only thing you must remember is not to take grapefruit juice at any point while you are taking Cilostazol.

Cilostazol use is usually required for a long period of time before you even recognize a substantial effect. It sometimes takes as long as three months for a person to benefit from it. To be clear about it, Cilostazol does not cure intermittent claudication. It only provides relief to its symptoms. Reduced leg pain can be achieved as well with enough rest. For people who cannot afford to rest, Cilostazol is the best answer.

The use of Cilostazol causes some side effects that are quite bearable. Dizziness, irregular heartbeats, diarrhea, stomach troubles, abnormal stool, and flu-like symptoms are common. However, breathing difficulty, swelling in the hands, feet, ankles, and legs, and severe rashes are causes for alarm. Call your doctor immediately if you feel that your physical discomfort outweighs the benefits of Cilostazol treatment. Always be on guard. Early detection of a problem helps greatly in repairing it.
