Carbenicillin is a drug used as an antibiotic that belongs to the group of penicillin drug. Carbenicillin can fight many types of bacteria inside the body except viral infections that are common to colds and flu.

Carbenicillin is a prescribed drug distributed under the brand name Geocillin. Carbenicillin comes in a form of tablets that can be administered orally to patients who have infections due to bacteria. This includes patients who have bladder infection.

Dosage in using Carbenicillin is determined by the doctor based on series of laboratory tests. For best results, this drug should be taken orally at least an hour before a meal. Take the medicine with a glass of water to make it easier to swallow.

Follow the prescribed dosage by the doctor and never change the dosage and schedule. Never take two doses to make up for a missed dose. You should can forget the missed dose and take the next one.

In case of overdose, you must immediately seek for a medical help.

Patients undergoing medication with Carbenicillin may experience side effects. The common side effects include fever, unusual weakness, severe skin itching and pilling, unusual behavior, seizure, diarrhea and difficulty in urinating.

There are also lesser serious side effects that may occur such as headache, swollen tongue, vomiting, stomach pain, and vaginal discharge or itching. If any of the side effects occur, it is best to consult your doctor before continuing with the medication.

Individuals who are allergic to Carbenicillin and other antibiotics such as Ampicillin, Amoxicillin, Oxacillin, Penicillin and Dicloxacillin must avoid using the medicine.

Aside from that, you must inform your doctor if you are taking other prescribed medicines, herbal medicines, vitamins and other substances that may interact or interfere with Carbenicillin.

It is also necessary to inform your doctor if you have other medical history or health disorder like intestine or stomach disorders, kidney problems and blood disorders. Avoid using the medicine longer than what is prescribed by your physician because it will lead to secondary infections such as vaginal yeast infection, oral infection and bladder infection.

It is also important to tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breast feeding or you are planning to get pregnant prior to medication. The effectiveness of birth control pills may be interfered when used together with Carbenicillin. In this case, you can ask for other alternative birth control methods you can use while undergoing medication with Carbenicillin.

Carbenicillin is prescribed according to your present medical condition. Therefore it is not advisable to use the drug again in case of another infection. This drug should not be shared to anyone else even if the individual has the same symptoms. Consultation with a doctor is necessary before taking the drug for medication.

Patients who are taking the drug for medication are required to have a regular check up of their blood, kidney and liver functions. This is to determine if the drug is working well in treating the infection. You must follow the schedules according to the doctor’s advice.
