  Arimidex

Arimidex

Arimidex review

Arimidex is a kind of medication for treatment of breast cancer among post-menopausal individuals. It belongs to a group of drugs referred to as aromatase inhibitors. Arimidex is used following surgery. It is being manufactured and sold by AstraZeneca.

Patients are usually recommended to take 1 mg of Arimidex per day. For those who suffer from advanced stage of breast cancer, Arimidex is recommended to be continued until the progression of the tumor.

Arimidex is taken orally, and can be consumed even on an empty stomach. Users must not take two doses of Arimidex at the same time. In case of a missed dose, users must take Arimidex as soon as possible. But if it is about time for the next dose, users should just skip the missed dose and follow the regular schedule.

Arimidex must be stored at room temperature not higher than 25 degrees Celcius.

Arimidex may cause some patients to experience dizziness. The effect can worsen if patients take Arimidex while drinking alcoholic beverages or taking other medicines. Arimidex must be taken with caution.

Laboratory tests like blood cholesterol and bone mineral density exams may be performed while a patient uses Arimidex. Such examinations may be used for monitoring of condition and checking of side effects.

Arimidex can be used in children, however extreme caution is necessary. The effectiveness and safety of Arimidex has yet to be proven. The same is true for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. Those who are planning to get pregnant may have to consult with their doctors about the risks and benefits of taking Arimidex.

Arimidex is not to be taken with tamoxifen since it can decrease the effect of Arimidex. Likewise, treatments that have Oestrogen in it such as HRT must not be taken while using Arimidex since it can counteract with the medication.

Those who are suffering from osteoporosis should also be extremely cautious in using Arimidex. Women who have risk factors for the said disease such as early menopause, small and thin frame, smokers, or family history may also be at risk if they use Arimidex.

Arimidex can also make its users feel lethargic or sleepy. Those who use Arimidex may have to be very cautious in doing hazardous jobs like driving or operating on any type of machinery.

Arimidex can also cause bleeding in the vagina during the first few weeks, particularly if the user shifted hormonal treatment. In case the bleeding continues, immediately consult a specialist.

Like most medicines, Arimidex can cause side effects. Check with a physician if some of the more common side effects of Arimidex continue to trouble you. These include anxiety; pain in the back, breast, bones, joints, or pelvic bone; headache; cough; dizziness; hot flashes; nausea; lack of appetite; difficulties in sleeping; vaginal dryness; tingling sensation; sweating; upset stomach; and unexplained gain in weight.

Some of the more severe side effects of Arimidex include difficulty in breathing; fever; chills; painful urination; numbness of arms or legs; peeling skin; vomiting; vaginal bleeding; and swollen lymph nodes.
