Albendazole is an antihelminitic drug. Medicines considered in this group are effective in battling worm manifestations. As such, Albendazole is a preventive drug for worms to grow and multiply inside your body, leading to other illnesses. It is mostly used in treating tapeworm, threadworm, roundworm, whipworm, and hookworm infections.
Albendazole is available in tablet form. It is taken orally by mouth usually with food at least twice a day. Conditions are different from patient to patient so you need to consult your doctor for your case. Through the consultation, whether you can use Albendazole as a treatment or not, you must openly discuss your medical history book. It is important to take Albendazole for the entire period of time that was prescribed by your doctor to make sure that the worms are stopped completely. Even if your symptoms for worm infection get better, remember not to stop using the drug unless your doctor tells you so. The worms might still be alive even when you feel your health is back to normal. Do not use higher doses of Albendazole. In the same way, it is unsafe to use the medicine beyond the prescribed period. In case you miss a dose, take it as soon as you realize that you miss it. If it is too near the next dosing time on your schedule, discard the missed dose and continue with the regular dose. Do not double up your dosage at any given time because it will lead to overdose. If you suspect that you have taken too much of Albendazole, call your doctor immediately. There are no known symptoms of Albendazole overdose but it sure is bad for your health.
While under medication, stay away from people with contagious diseases such as flu, cough, and colds. Albendazole lower your body’s ability to resist from infections. You cannot use it as well to treat viral and bacterial infections. Like most drugs, Albendazole comes with side effects. The most common physical discomfort of Albendazole is dizziness, which may worsen with the presence of alcohol and other medicines. Headache, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pains are also normal. If those symptoms persist, worsen, or came with fever, chills, sore throat, unusual easy bruising, and vision changes, make an appointment with your doctor immediately.
