Advil is a medication used for the treatment of pain and swelling. It is particularly effective in treating headaches, dental pain, backaches, muscle aches, arthritis, menstrual cramps and athletic injuries. Advil may also be used for fever and for relief of minor aches resulting from the common flu. Advil works by blocking enzymes responsible for prostaglandins. Decreasing prostaglandins is vital in the reduction of pain and inflammation in the body.
Advil is taken orally with a glass full of water. Patients must not lie down for 30 minutes after they take this drug. In cases of upset stomach after taking Advil, patients must take it with an antacid, food, or milk. Dosage of Advil depends on the medical condition and response of the patient. If multiple doses are needed, each dose must be taken at least 6 hours apart from each other.
Advil may take a couple of weeks before it completely heals certain conditions, particularly arthritis. In case patients take Advil on an irregular schedule, they must be advised to take the medication during the first symptoms of pain.

In case you miss a dose of Advil, just skip it and take on the next schedule dose. You should not double their dosage of Advil just to catch up.

Patients who have severe cases of kidney ailment, asthma, and heart problems may also be at risk when they use Advil. Other conditions that may affect the effectiveness of Advil include stroke, high blood pressure, dehydration, blood disorders, and bleeding.
Taking of Advil may result to patients feeling drowsy. As such, they are advised to be more cautious in driving. It is also important that they limit their intake of alcoholic beverages.
Advil may also cause patients to suffer from stomach bleeding, particularly if they regularly smoke and drink alcoholic beverages. Patients should stop smoking and drinking to prevent cases of stomach bleeding.
Advil may also make patients more sensitive to sun exposure, so they should stay away from the sun or use sunscreen and protective clothes when going outdoors.
Patients who use Advil may experience some side effects such as constipation, upset stomach, vomiting, dizziness, nausea, headache, heartburn, diarrhea, and drowsiness. They should immediately consult their doctors in case any of the abovementioned side effects continue or even worsen.
Some of the more serious side effects of using Advil include swelling of the feet and hands, unexplained and sudden gain in weight, and tinnitus or ringing sound in the ears. Patients may also experience changes in vision, irregular heartbeat, difficulty in swallowing, and unexplained bleeding. There have also been cases wherein patients suffered from severe stiff neck and headache. These serious side effects however have remote chances of occurring.
Advil may likewise cause serious and at times fatal cases of liver disease. If patients notice symptoms like yellowed eyes and skin, and unexplained tiredness, they should immediately consult their physicians.
