  Neuroglia

Most organs are horded into connective tissue which comes from mesoderm. However neuroglia (with the exception of one type) is derived from the ectoderm which creates the neurons. There are six various categories of neuroglia, including neurolemmocytes, oligodendrocytes, microglia, astrocytes, ependymal, and ganglionic gliocytes. Neurolemmocytes are responsible for the myelin layers which encompass the axon cells in the PNS. Oligodendrocytes form these same layers around the axon cells of the central nervous system. Microglia are the clean up cells, removing any debris found in the central nervous system. Astrocytes are responsible for the passage of cells and molecules between the central nervous system and the brain. Lining the central canal of the spinal cord and the ventricles of the brain is the ependymal cells. And providing support for the cell bodies of the PNS are the ganglionic gliocytes.
