Sickness is the general term for a condition wherein a person experiences dizziness and nausea. The different forms of sickness are morning sickness, mountain sickness and motion sickness.

Morning sickness is a condition experienced by pregnant women during the first few months of their pregnancy. No one really knows what the cause of this is. There are, however, some theories that explain the origin of this symptom. Most of these theories revolve around the changes that the body experiences during pregnancy like the spike in the levels of estrogen and progesterone during this time, the sensitivity of one's sense of smell as well as the increase in stomach acids. Of course, we shouldn't remove the role of stress and fatigue in bringing about this condition.

One of the suspects that are blamed for causing morning sickness is progesterone which becomes very dominant during pregnancy. Progesterone has relaxing effect on the muscles of the body, affecting even those of the digestive tract. This can cause the emptying of the stomach to slow down, leading to the increase in stomach acids. Another probable cause of morning sickness is the accumulation of the human chorionic gonadropin (hCG).

You can avoid this by taking some supplements like Vitamin B6, iron and ginger capsules. You should also stay away from places with high temperature and get up the bed very slowly. You should also follow your cravings because they will give you the nutrients that you need during your pregnancy. Lessening the amount of food that you take in for each meal and increasing the number of times that you eat in a day can also help.

Although morning sickness is typically experienced by women during pregnancy, a more severe type of hyperemesis gavidarium is experiencedy by 0.5 to 2.5% of pregnant women. If you find yourself vomiting more than three or four times a day, then you should start seeing a doctor because this can cause dehydration, weight loss and nutritional deficiencies which may cause lethal complications for both the mother and the unborn child.

Mountain sickness or altitude sickness occurs when a person hasn't acclimatized to the new height where the pressure of the air pressure and the percentage of oxygen is reduced. This condition is usually harmless except in scenarios wherein people continue to move up the mountain without proper acclimatization. This can lead to the leakage of the fluid from capilliaries in the lungs and brain, causing the build-up of fluid which can lead to a more serve type of altitude sickness.

Acute mountain sickness is very common. This is actually experienced by two-thirds of the people who go up Mount Rainer and around 50% of the people who fly to the Khumbu region in Nepal. High altitude pulmonary edema, on the other hand, is a more severe form of mountain sickness and can cause fluids to accumulate in the lungs, obstructing a person's breathing. When you suspect this illness, make sure you consult a doctor immediately. When untreated, this type of mountain sickness can lead to respiratory collapse and death. Another form of mountain sickness can cause fluid to accumulate in the brain. Loss of coordination is a symptom of this condition. Emergency medical attention is needed because it can progress to coma and death.

People usually experience mountain sickness when they go up a mountain too quickly. You should pace yourself in order give your body time to acclimatize to the new environment. This usually takes around three days. During this time, changes in the body occur in order to adjust to the change in the environment. For this reason, it’s better to hike or walk up than fly to a place that is located at a high altitude.

You can also try taking in some medication like Acetazolamide which can treat the problem by increasing the levels of alkali that is excreted by the urine, decreasing the pH of your blood. This will make it easier for you to ventilate.

Motion sickness is a condition that one experiences when riding any form of transportation. This usually happens when a person's sense of balance and equilibrium is affected by the repeated motion of a car, plane or ship. One's sensation of motion travels to the brain in the form of signals which is sent by our eyes, inner ears and proprioceptors. If these three components are not coordinated with the brain, motion sickness occurs. We do not end up with motion sickness when our movement is intentional because the three pathways are coordinated with the brain. However, when we are riding a vehicle that is in motion, the brain may not be able to coordinate with the three pathways.

In order to prevent motion sickness, pick a cabin on the upper deck of a ship. The cabin should also be located in the front or middle part of the ship. If you are riding a plane, pick a seat that is located over the front edge of a wing. Also pick a window seat. When you ride a train, find a seat facing forward and sit by the window. And, if you're going to ride a car, you should either drive or sit in the passenger seat. Never read while you are on a vehicle. Look through your window and enjoy the view. Focus on a distant and stationary object like a mountain or a green field. Before a trip, avoid overeating and consuming spicy and greasy foods.

Motion sickness can be treated by taking medications like Bonine, Antivert and Dramamine. These medications can make you feel drowsy. Some people use a scopolamine skin patch which is placed behind the ear four hours before riding a vehicle in order to stop the occurrence of motion sickness. This patch can prevent motion sickness for seventy-two hours. Pressure bracelets usually work well for kids. You can find them in any pharmacy or drugstore.

Of course, if you end up having motion sickness even though you are not on any form of transportation, you should consult your doctor in order to find out if there is something wrong with your inner ears.
